Recognised globally, we’re the disaffected, eye-rolling middle children of history, raised by wolves, feral, fuelled by cynicism, and still showing up. IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), also known as Braindance, is a style of electronic music originating in the early 1990s, defined by idiosyncratic experimentation rather than specific genre constraints. It emerged from the culture and sound palette of electronic and rave music styles such as ambient techno, acid house, Detroit techno and breakbeat, it has been regarded as better suited to home listening than dancing. Prominent artists include Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada & Squarepusher.
Saw the 91X top 91 of 1993 list. 2023 and 2024 didn’t have top 91s, meaning those songs are forgotten.

In 1995, Ed and Andy ended their five year collaboration with Ken Downie and left The Black Dog. Plaid released the Android EP that same year, and the pair began rechanneling their efforts full-time. Plaid goes on to perpetually produce a steady stream of inventive, warm, vivacious electronic music.
